Vidyacharcha Kendra

Reforming education through community initiatives

Vidyacharcha Kendra is not any organization or institution but a concept and a mission that evolved in 2014 at village Phuldanga, Bolpur, Birbhum 731235 under the intiative of Sutanu Bhattacharya. Its objective is to regenerate local community initiatives in tribal/backward villages for providing their children the basic elementary education at home through non-formal mode.

Footprints

Already spread over 50 tribal/backward villages in West Bengal through independent and spontaneous initiatives of many persons and organisations, Vidyacharcha Kendras are now serving to the basic educational needs of more than 1000 children.

The Mission

Over the years, many persons came forward and gave the concept and the education methodology a definite shape of a mission, adapting to the local conditions and thereby leading to its further evolution.

Guidelines

Specific guidelines have evolved spelling out in details the education methodology of Vidyacharcha Kendra and the curricula with lesson plans to be followed — what the children should learn and how to help them proceed step by step in learning from pre-primary to primary education.

Study Material

Study materials appropriate for children and their local educators in small books on Bengali, English and Mathematics are prepared presently in Bengali medium. To keep the size and shape of these books manageable and easy for the children to handle, unlike those intimidating huge schoolbooks, all the unnecessary repetitions, confusingly loud colourful pictures, and the big font size of text letters are carefully avoided. These textbooks are now being written in local community languages to help child’s learning through mother tongue.
